Modal is hiring a technical lead for the team behind blobnet, the distributed object storage system holding every container image, volume and checkpoint on its serverless platform: hundreds of petabytes replicated across cloud object stores and a CDN, cached on local NVMe, shared peer-to-peer within datacenters. The lead sets direction for storage primitives other teams build on, manages three to eight engineers, and stays hands-on with garbage collection, replication, rate limiting and capacity planning. Requirements include 7+ years of production code, 3+ years managing engineers, and large-scale distributed storage or caching experience.
