R-Ladies Rome hosts the second workshop in its Machine Learning in Epidemiology with R series, led by Federica Gazzelloni. With a heart-disease classification example, participants train and compare decision trees, random forests and a simple Keras neural network, following a workflow from data exploration to evaluation on unseen observations. The session covers layers, activation functions, epochs, batch sizes, training and validation loss, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, ROC/AUC, overfitting and cross-validation. It is for people applying machine learning to epidemiology and health data; basic R and RStudio familiarity is recommended.
