Vercel was founded by Guillermo Rauch in 2015, originally as ZEIT, and was rebranded to Vercel in April 2020. Rauch, previously creator of Socket.IO, also created the open-source Next.js React framework, which Vercel's cloud platform is built to optimize for. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Vercel provides a cloud platform for building, deploying, and scaling web applications and frontend infrastructure. In 2023 it launched v0, an AI tool that generates React/web UI code from natural-language prompts and images, which has grown into a widely used AI-assisted development product with millions of users. Vercel has raised over $800 million in total funding. In September 2025, it closed a $300 million Series F led by Accel and GIC, valuing the company at $9.3 billion. Other investors include Bedrock, Greenoaks, Tiger Global, and 8VC.
