Future of Web runs a one-hour virtual session presenting a controlled experiment in generative engine optimisation, conducted on a live production site. Pages were randomised into test arms at the URL level, with variants served to AI crawlers through edge middleware, and results measured at both ends: what GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and retrieval-time counterparts fetched, and what appeared in AI-generated answers via weekly citation sampling against major answer engines. The session covers the experiment design, the interventions tested — from structural HTML changes to extractable-fact density — what moved and what did not, and a methodology others can replicate on their own sites.
