Tokyo Tech Talks' eighth meetup looks inside large language models rather than at their outputs. Independent researcher Larry Richards leads a session on what happens within a model between input and response, drawing on experiments with model internals. He works on mechanistic interpretability, sparse representations, activation interventions and the geometry of language-model internals, and maintains the open-source options-pricing library vollib. The session assumes familiarity with Transformer basics — layers, activations, next-token prediction — and treats architecture as background rather than teaching it from scratch. Talks are given in English and Japanese.
