The Toronto Philosophy Meetup holds an online group discussion via Jitsi. This final meeting on artificial intelligence asks whether AI-created models or artificial people can substitute for actual people as friends, psychoanalysts, physicians or guidance counsellors. It also takes up the title question: whether the human race is hopeless, given climate change, threats to liberal democracy, wealth disparities and a precarious international order. The organizer selects topics and may recommend articles, podcasts and videos. Participants are invited to argue for their views.
