Yejin Choi: Stanford HAI professor and NVIDIA scientist

Yejin Choi is Dieter Schwarz Foundation HAI Professor at Stanford and a distinguished scientist at NVIDIA, a MacArthur Fellow known for commonsense reasoning.

Yejin Choi is a computer scientist at Stanford University, where she is the Dieter Schwarz Foundation HAI Professor, Professor of Computer Science and a senior fellow of the Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI). Stanford announced the appointment in January 2025, when she was also serving as a senior director at NVIDIA; NVIDIA's own research page now describes her as a distinguished scientist of Language and Cognition Research there. She took her BS at Seoul National University and her PhD in computer science at Cornell University, advised by Claire Cardie. Before moving to California she spent more than a decade at the University of Washington as the Wissner-Slivka Professor in the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science and Engineering and as a senior research manager at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. Her research covers commonsense reasoning, pluralistic alignment, smaller and more efficient language models, and AI for science and social good. Choi was named a MacArthur Fellow in the class of 2022, shared the Marr Prize at ICCV 2013, and was named to TIME's list of the 100 most influential people in AI in 2023 and 2025. In September 2025 she briefed the United Nations Security Council.
