Wojciech Zaremba co-founded OpenAI and since March 2026 has been head of AI resilience at the OpenAI Foundation, the company's nonprofit arm.

Wojciech Zaremba is a Polish computer scientist from Kluczbork and a co-founder of OpenAI. Since March 2026 he has been head of AI resilience at the OpenAI Foundation, the company's nonprofit arm, which announced him in the role on 24 March 2026. Writing on the foundation's site in June 2026, he set out resilience work in four areas - bio-resilience, cyber-resilience, model safety, and AI's effects on young people - and reported $130 million in grants agreed, part of at least $1 billion the foundation expects to spend within a year. He studied mathematics and computer science at the University of Warsaw, took a master's at Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, and enrolled at NYU's Courant Institute in September 2013 for a PhD in computer science, working with Rob Fergus. In 2007 he won a silver medal for Poland at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Vietnam. During the doctorate he interned at Google and Facebook; his thesis thanks the Google Brain and Facebook AI Research teams. He joined OpenAI as a founding member in late 2015, while still finishing the doctorate. At OpenAI he headed the unit responsible for robotics, according to Forbes Polska, and co-authored the 2019 paper on solving a Rubik's Cube with a robot hand; the robotics team was wound down around October 2020, a decision he later called ‘quite hard for me’.
