Sebastian Raschka runs the RAIR Lab, writes the Ahead of AI newsletter and wrote Build a Large Language Model (From Scratch) and its reasoning sequel.

Sebastian Raschka is an LLM research engineer who runs his own lab, Raschka AI Research (RAIR Lab), after working as a senior engineer at Lightning AI and as an assistant professor of statistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the author of Machine Learning with PyTorch and Scikit-Learn (Packt, 2022), Machine Learning Q and AI (No Starch Press, 2024), Build a Large Language Model (From Scratch) (Manning, 2024) and Build a Reasoning Model (From Scratch) (Manning, June 2026). He writes the Ahead of AI newsletter, which lists over 214,000 subscribers, and his LLMs-from-scratch repository has more than 105,000 GitHub stars.
