Robert Miles explains AI alignment and existential risk to 172K YouTube subscribers, founded AISafety.info and started the AI Safety Talks channel.

Robert Miles is a science communicator who explains AI safety and alignment research on YouTube. He studied computer science at the University of Nottingham and started making videos for Computerphile while a PhD student there, after bumping into the channel's film-maker in a queue for a barbecue; his conference biography dates his AI safety content to 2014. His own channel, Robert Miles AI Safety, was opened in 2012 and has about 172,000 subscribers and 8.9 million views. He founded AISafety.info, an interactive FAQ and chatbot answering questions about AI risk, which is maintained by a global team of volunteers and specialists and runs under the US charity Ashgro Inc. He also started the AI Safety Talks channel, which publishes recorded research talks and has about 10,000 subscribers, and works with research organisations on explaining their results; at the Technical AI Safety Conference in April 2024 he gave a talk arguing that research communication is part of the job. Through 2026 his output has shifted towards frequent short videos on current arguments and advocacy, among them keeping a model in a box, lie detectors for models, and street protests against the AI race.
