Nick Frosst: Cohere co-founder and Good Kid singer

Nick Frosst co-founded Cohere in 2019 after four years at Google Brain under Geoffrey Hinton, and sings for the Toronto indie rock band Good Kid.

Nick Frosst is a Canadian computer scientist and a co-founder of Cohere, a Toronto company that builds large language models for enterprises; Cohere's site still lists him as a co-founder. He took a BSc in computer science and cognitive science at the University of Toronto in 2015 and was a student of Geoffrey Hinton. Frosst was among Geoffrey Hinton's earliest hires at Google Brain's Toronto office, where he worked on deep learning from 2016 to 2020. In 2019 he co-founded Cohere with Aidan Gomez and Ivan Zhang. The company raised $500 million in August 2025 at a $6.8 billion valuation and $100 million more a month later at about $7 billion, and on 16 September 2026 signed a definitive combination agreement with Germany's Aleph Alpha; the unified company keeps the Cohere name, is headquartered in Berlin and Toronto and expects more than 1,000 staff. Outside AI, Frosst sings for the Toronto indie rock band Good Kid. It played Lollapalooza in August 2024 and released its debut album, Can We Hang Out Sometime?, on 3 April 2026.
