Mike Pound - Nottingham CS and Computerphile

Mike Pound is an associate professor of computer science at the University of Nottingham, a computer-vision researcher and a regular Computerphile presenter.

Michael "Mike" Pound is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, where he works on computer vision and on applying machine learning to bioimage analysis, in particular plant phenotyping and root system architecture. He convenes the school's third-year Computer Security module, and the university lists his media expertise as AI, large language models and cybersecurity. He is widely known for appearances on Brady Haran's Computerphile channel, where he has explained password cracking, brute-force attacks, kernel convolution and image analysis; a film of his on AI watermarking went up there on 3 September 2026. He does not run a channel of his own. Pound is first author of the 2013 Plant Physiology paper introducing RootNav, an image-analysis tool for measuring complex plant root systems, and senior author of its deep-learning successor, RootNav 2.0, in GigaScience in 2019.
