Kevin Scott - Microsoft chief technology officer

Kevin Scott has been Microsoft's chief technology officer since January 2017, after running engineering at LinkedIn, at AdMob and at Google.

Kevin Scott (born 1972, raised in Gladys, Virginia) is Microsoft's executive vice president and chief technology officer. He has held the job since January 2017, when Satya Nadella appointed him after Microsoft bought LinkedIn. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Lynchburg College and a master's from Wake Forest University, and left a PhD at the University of Virginia in 2003 to join Google. At Google he worked in search and ads engineering and won a Google Founders' Award. He was VP of engineering and operations at AdMob from 2007 until Google bought it in 2010, then ran mobile ads engineering there; from February 2011 to January 2017 he was LinkedIn's senior vice president of engineering and operations, scaling its systems through the May 2011 IPO and six years of growth. At Microsoft he has driven the AI strategy across Azure, Copilot and Windows, and announced the exclusive licence to OpenAI's GPT-3 on the corporate blog in September 2020. He wrote Reprogramming the American Dream with Greg Shaw, hosts the Behind the Tech podcast and founded a nonprofit of the same name. He sits on Shopify's board and is a trustee of The Scott Foundation.
