Jerry Liu: co-founder and CEO of LlamaIndex

Jerry Liu published the project that became LlamaIndex in November 2022 and runs the company, which sells document parsing and agent tooling for LLMs.

Jerry Liu is the co-founder and chief executive of LlamaIndex. He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton in 2017 with a BSE in computer science and a certificate in finance, writing a senior thesis on 3D shape manipulation with GANs under Thomas Funkhouser, and published research on stereo, LiDAR and video compression at ICCV, ECCV, CVPR and NeurIPS. Before LlamaIndex he was a machine learning engineer at Quora, an Uber AI resident and then a research scientist at Uber ATG, and a machine learning engineering manager at Robust Intelligence. In November 2022 he published to GitHub the indexing project that became LlamaIndex, an open-source framework for connecting language models to private data. With Simon Suo he built a company around it, announcing an $8.5 million seed round led by Greylock in June 2023 and a $19 million Series A led by Norwest in March 2025. The company now sells document parsing and agent tooling.
