Jakob Uszkoreit: Inceptive CEO, Transformer co-author

Jakob Uszkoreit co-founded and runs Inceptive, which designs RNA medicines with deep learning, and co-wrote the 2017 Transformer paper at Google.

Jakob Uszkoreit is a German computer scientist and the co-founder and chief executive of Inceptive (Inceptive Nucleics), a company that applies deep learning to the design of RNA medicines. He holds a master's degree in computer science and mathematics from Technische Universitaet Berlin. His own site sums up his Google years as deep learning research in Google Brain, building the language understanding team of the Google Assistant, and work on Google Translate in its early days. At Google he was one of eight equal-contributor authors of "Attention Is All You Need", submitted on 12 June 2017, the paper that introduced the Transformer architecture behind most current large language models. He is also a co-author of the Vision Transformer paper, "An Image is Worth 16x16 Words", submitted in October 2020. He co-founded Inceptive in 2021 with the Stanford biochemist Rhiju Das. In June 2026 the company signed a research collaboration with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals worth up to $2 billion, with $30 million paid upfront in cash and equity.
