Ilya Sutskever is a computer scientist who co-authored AlexNet, winner of the 2012 ImageNet competition, and co-founded OpenAI in 2015, where he was chief scientist through the GPT models. He left in 2024 to start Safe Superintelligence Inc. with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy, and has been its chief executive since Gross's departure on 3 July 2025. SSI works from Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, raised $1 billion in September 2024, and in July 2026 agreed a compute partnership with NVIDIA. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2022.
