Hamel Husain — AI evals engineer and educator

Hamel Husain is a machine learning engineer with more than 20 years of experience. He worked at Airbnb and at GitHub, where his early large-language-model research on code was used by OpenAI for code understanding. He is now an independent consultant and educator through Parlance Labs, helping companies get large language models into production. His subject is “evals” — bringing data-science rigour to AI development by helping teams debug, analyse and measure LLM systems — which he covers in consulting, in teaching and in writing at hamel.dev. With Shreya Shankar he teaches “AI Evals for Engineers & PMs” on Maven, taken by more than 5,000 engineers and product managers from over 500 companies including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and the two are writing an O’Reilly book, “Evals for AI Engineers”. He is based in Portland, Oregon.
