Greg Brockman - OpenAI co-founder and president

Greg Brockman co-founded OpenAI in 2015 and is its president. Since May 2026 he has run product strategy, including the ChatGPT and Codex merger.

Gregory Brockman (born 29 November 1987 in Thompson, North Dakota) enrolled at Harvard in 2008, left after a year for MIT, and dropped out in 2010 to join Stripe, where he became the company's first CTO in 2013. He left Stripe in May 2015. In December 2015 he co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman, Ilya Sutskever, Elon Musk and others, doing much of the recruiting of the founding research team; the company's first office was his living room. He led OpenAI Gym and OpenAI Five, and presented GPT-4 in a live demo on 14 March 2023. When the board removed Altman in November 2023, Brockman was taken off the board and quit the same day; both were back at OpenAI within days. He took a sabbatical from August to November 2024. He is OpenAI's co-founder and president, having earlier been chairman of its board. In May 2026 he took charge of product strategy while Fidji Simo was on medical leave and kept it after she stepped down in July, putting the ChatGPT business, the go-to-market and enterprise teams and a planned merger of ChatGPT and Codex into a single agentic platform under him.
