Fidji Simo - OpenAI adviser, ChronicleBio co-founder

Fidji Simo led OpenAI's applications business until July 2026 and now advises it part-time, co-founded ChronicleBio, and sits on the Nscale and Shopify boards.

Fidji Simo (born 5 October 1985) is a French-American executive who grew up in Sète, in the south of France, and was the first in her family to finish high school. She took a management degree at HEC Paris, spent its final year at UCLA, and worked at eBay from 2007 to 2011 before joining Facebook, where over a decade she ran News Feed, Video, Marketplace and Ads and ended as vice-president and head of the Facebook app. She was CEO of Instacart from August 2021 to August 2025, chaired its board from 2023, and listed it on Nasdaq under the ticker CART in September 2023. She joined OpenAI in August 2025 as its first CEO of Applications, a role later retitled CEO of AGI Deployment, with product, engineering, sales, finance and policy reporting to her. On 9 July 2026, after three months of medical leave for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), which she had lived with for seven years, she gave up the full-time job for a part-time advisory role at OpenAI. She co-founded ChronicleBio, which applies AI to patient blood data to study POTS, ME/CFS and long COVID, and joined the board of the AI data-centre company Nscale in September 2026. She also sits on Shopify's board.
