Chris Albon is Senior Director for machine learning and data platform engineering at the Wikimedia Foundation, and made the widely shared AI Flashcards.

Chris Albon is Senior Director at the Wikimedia Foundation, where he leads machine learning and data platform engineering for Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Davis, where he researched the quantitative effect of civil wars on health care systems, and has spent over a decade in mission-driven technology companies and nonprofits, covering disaster relief, healthcare, humanitarian aid, anti-corruption, conservation and free knowledge. He was director of data science in three earlier roles, including at the humanitarian nonprofit Ushahidi and at Devoted Health, and co-founded the AI startup Yonder. Albon wrote Machine Learning with Python Cookbook (O'Reilly, 2018; second edition 2023 with Kyle Gallatin), made the Machine Learning Flashcards, now sold as AI Flashcards, and co-hosted the data science podcast Partially Derivative. He writes the newsletter Machines of Knowledge and is based in San Francisco.
