Amjad Masad — co-founder and CEO of Replit

Amjad Masad co-founded Replit in 2016 and runs it as CEO. He was Codecademy's first engineer and worked on Facebook's JavaScript tooling before that.

Amjad Masad was born and raised in Amman, Jordan; his parents were both refugees, his father from Palestine and his mother from Algeria, and his father worked as a civil engineer. He studied computer science at Princess Sumaya University for Technology before moving to the US. He was Codecademy's first employee and a founding engineer, and left in 2013 for Facebook, where he spent 2013 to 2016 on the JavaScript infrastructure team, working on React Native, the Babel compiler and the Jest test runner. In 2016 he co-founded Replit, an online coding platform and IDE, with his wife Haya Odeh, and has been its CEO since. Under him Replit turned toward AI-assisted building, including its Agent products, which let people describe software in plain language and have it written for them. In March 2026 Replit said it had raised $400 million at a $9 billion valuation, three times its price six months earlier, with more than 50 million users and a run-rate it expected to reach $1 billion by the end of the year. The round made him a billionaire for the first time: Forbes puts his net worth at about $2 billion.
