Zenlytic builds an AI-driven business intelligence tool centered on Zoe, a conversational agent that answers data questions in plain English by writing and running queries against a connected warehouse. Ryan Janssen, a former venture capital investor, founded the company in New York in 2018 alongside co-founder and CTO Paul Blankley. The product pairs a semantic layer, a defined set of business metrics and relationships, with a large language model, on the argument that text-to-SQL alone produces unreliable answers without that layer constraining what the model is allowed to assume about a company's data. A user can ask Zoe a question through chat or Slack and get back an answer along with the underlying query, intended to let people check the work rather than trust the AI's output blindly. Zenlytic has raised $15.4 million total, including a $9 million Series A in September 2024 led by M13 with participation from Bain Capital Ventures, and remains a small team based in New York.
