Seoul startup behind Korea's widely used wrtn AI assistant and the interactive AI storytelling app Crack (Kyarapu in Japan), now expanding toward $100M in annual revenue.

Wrtn Technologies was founded in 2021 in Seoul by CEO Seyoung Lee, originally as a chatbot aggregator that routed user queries to whichever underlying AI model suited the task. That product became wrtn, an AI portal combining conversational search, document drafting, and image generation that grew into one of South Korea's most-used consumer AI tools, particularly among students and office workers. The company has since built a second major line around AI-driven interactive entertainment: Crack in Korea and Kyarapu in Japan, branching storytelling experiences where a generative model acts as a real-time narrator rather than a single fixed chat companion. That product now drives much of Wrtn's growth, with the company reporting more than 5 million monthly active users across Korea and Japan and revenue on pace to surpass $100 million annually. Wrtn raised a Series B of roughly $73.5 million (108 billion won) in March 2025, becoming the first Korean AI startup to cross $88.5 million in total funding, and has said it plans to expand its storytelling product into the US market under the name OOC: The Playable Anime, with an eye toward a public listing as early as 2028.
