Wordly was founded in 2017 by Lakshman Rathnam and is headquartered in Los Altos, California; it launched its first live AI translation and captioning product in 2019 aimed at conference organizers who wanted multilingual access without booking booths of human interpreters for every language. The platform ingests a speaker's live audio and produces translated audio, live captions, and searchable transcripts across dozens of languages simultaneously, with a custom glossary feature so organizations can pre-load acronyms, product names, and technical terms before an event. It integrates with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other conferencing tools, as well as in-room audio hardware for in-person and hybrid events. Wordly says it has powered more than a billion minutes of live translation for over five million users across 120 countries, and it ranked #196 on the 2025 Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private US companies; the leadership team includes CTO Jim Firby, COO Kirk Hendrickson, and CMO Dave Deasy alongside Rathnam.
