Wiz was founded in January 2020 by Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Yinon Costica and Roy Reznik, four veterans of Israel's Unit 8200 signals intelligence unit who had previously built and sold the cloud security startup Adallom to Microsoft. The team set out to rebuild cloud security around a single risk graph, connecting vulnerabilities, identities, network exposure and data sensitivity so security teams could focus on issues that actually chain into a breach instead of triaging every finding a scanner produces. The core product is an agentless cloud-native application protection platform that connects to AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud and Kubernetes clusters through read-only cloud provider APIs, building a full inventory and risk graph within hours. Wiz later expanded past posture management into code security with Wiz Code, built on its 2024 acquisition of Dazz, and into runtime detection and response with Wiz Defend, built on its acquisition of Gem Security, turning the original scanner into a platform spanning code to cloud to runtime. Wiz became one of the fastest-growing companies in enterprise software history. Google announced its acquisition of Wiz for roughly $32 billion in March 2025, and the deal closed in March 2026, with Wiz continuing to operate as a distinct product line inside Google Cloud while still supporting other cloud providers.
