Warp was founded in June 2020 by Zach Lloyd, a former Principal Engineer at Google (where he led development on Google Docs) and later interim CTO at Time. The company is headquartered in New York City. Warp rebuilt the terminal application from the ground up in Rust, adding features like text-editor-style input, command blocks, AI-assisted command generation, and, increasingly, agentic coding capabilities that let developers delegate coding tasks to AI directly from the terminal. Warp has raised about $73 million in total funding, including a $6 million seed round led by GV, a $17 million Series A led by Figma CEO Dylan Field, and a $50 million Series B led by Sequoia Capital in June 2023. The company reported around $16 million in annual revenue in 2025 and says it is used by more than 700,000 developers.
