AI music generation platform (Uncharted Labs, Inc.) that creates full songs with vocals and instrumentation from text prompts.

Udio was founded in December 2023 by a team of former Google DeepMind researchers, including David Ding (CEO), Conor Durkan, Charlie Nash, Yaroslav Ganin, and Andrew Sanchez, operating under the entity Uncharted Labs, Inc. The product launched in public beta on April 10, 2024, letting users generate complete songs with lyrics, vocals, and instrumentation from a single text prompt. Udio raised a $10 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with backing from music distributor UnitedMasters, artists including will.i.am and Common, Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, and DeepMind researcher Oriol Vinyals. In 2024, major labels including Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group (via the RIAA) sued Udio for copyright infringement over training data. UMG settled its case with Udio in October 2025 and Warner Music settled in November 2025, with both agreeing to build a new licensed AI music platform with Udio expected to launch in 2026; Sony Music's case remained ongoing.
