Truleo was founded in 2021 in Chicago by Anthony Tassone and Tejas Shastry, who had previously built compliance-monitoring software for financial-services phone calls before turning the same audio-analytics approach toward police body-worn cameras. The platform transcribes body-cam audio and tags each interaction for professionalism, escalation, and procedural language, flagging incidents for a supervisor to review before they become a formal complaint. The company has raised roughly $3.9 million from investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, Flex Capital, and Arnold Ventures, and it also ran a Regulation Crowdfunding raise on StartEngine. Seattle Police Department is among its higher-profile customers, and in 2024 Truleo added an AI report-drafting feature built on Amazon Bedrock that turns transcribed audio directly into a first-pass incident report. The Chicago Police Department and departments profiled by ProPublica and GeekWire have used the tool as part of a broader push to review body-cam footage that would otherwise go unwatched.
