Toonsquare

Seoul-based startup behind Tooning, an AI webtoon and comic creation platform for educators, marketers and professional creators.

Toonsquare grew out of a project inside Samsung Electronics' C-Lab incubator, founded in 2017 by Lee Ho-young alongside former Samsung colleagues Choi Ho-sup and Kim Gyu-cheul, before spinning out as an independent company in 2019. Its flagship product, Tooning, launched the following year as a webtoon and comic-creation SaaS built around a large library of pre-made characters, backgrounds and templates rather than raw prompt-based generation. The company raised a Series A round in 2022 from IPX (formerly Line Friends), CNT Invest and N Partners, at an estimated enterprise value near $28 million, and took on further funding from Capstone Partners in 2024. Toonsquare entered the US market in 2026, positioning Tooning both as an entry point for classrooms and marketing teams and, through its Tooning Plus tier, as a production tool for working webtoon creators.
