ThoughtSpot
Search-driven analytics platform that layers an AI analyst agent, Spotter, on top of governed enterprise data.

ThoughtSpot was founded in 2012 by Ajeet Singh and Amit Prakash, who had previously worked on Nutanix and Google's ad systems respectively, on the bet that most business users would rather type or speak a question than build a chart from scratch. The company built its own in-memory search engine, Falcon, to make that kind of ad hoc querying fast enough to feel conversational even over large, joined datasets, and it built a reputation in retail, financial services, and healthcare for embedded analytics that could sit inside another company's product. Ketan Karkhanis, who joined as CEO in 2024 after running Salesforce's Sales Cloud business, has pushed the platform further into agentic territory with Spotter, an AI analyst that answers open-ended "why" questions and, since mid-2025, can act as an MCP server so other AI tools can query ThoughtSpot's governed data directly. The company remains privately held, backed by investors including Lightspeed, Khosla Ventures, and General Catalyst, with a valuation reported around $4.2 billion.
