The Browser Company
New York startup that built Arc and then Dia, a Chromium-based browser with an AI assistant built into the sidebar instead of bolted on as an extension.

The Browser Company was founded in 2019 by Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal in New York. Its first product, Arc, rebuilt the browser interface around sidebars, Spaces, and split-view windows for power users who wanted more control over how tabs and profiles were organized, and it built a devoted following among designers and early adopters even though it never displaced mainstream browsers at scale. In December 2024 the company announced Dia, a second browser built around an AI assistant embedded directly in the interface rather than added as an extension. Dia reached private beta in mid-2025 and general availability on macOS that October, and the company has said publicly that new feature development is now focused on Dia rather than Arc. Atlassian agreed to acquire The Browser Company for $610 million in cash in September 2025, with the deal closing shortly after. The team has continued shipping updates to Dia under Atlassian's ownership rather than being folded away.
