Cloud orchestration layer that routes work to coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex through Slack, Linear, GitHub, and Jira.

Tembo was founded in Cincinnati in 2022 by Ry Walker, Darren Baldwin, and Benjamin Akar, incubated out of the University of Cincinnati's 1819 Innovation Hub. Walker had previously co-founded and led the data-orchestration company Astronomer. Tembo originally built a managed Postgres platform focused on extensions, but shut that product down in May 2025 to pivot fully into orchestrating AI coding agents, a bet that the hard problem in agentic engineering would shift from building agents to running many of them reliably at once. Rather than building its own coding agent, Tembo positions itself as the operating layer underneath agents teams already use, including Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and Amp, routing tasks assigned from Slack, Linear, GitHub, or Jira into isolated cloud virtual machines pre-loaded with the relevant repo and tooling. The company has raised $20 million total, including a $14 million Series A led by GreatPoint Ventures with participation from Venrock, Grand Ventures, and Wireframe Ventures. Connor Paton later joined the founding team as Chief Growth Officer, rounding out a leadership group built around the shared thesis that multi-repo, multi-agent orchestration is where engineering teams will need tooling next, distinct from the agents themselves.
