Founded in late 2024 by Rotem Weiss, Assaf Elovic, and Yuval Rozio (building on Weiss's earlier open-source GPT Researcher project), the company's API handles web search, content extraction, and research tasks with built-in safeguards against issues like PII leakage and prompt injection. Tavily is headquartered in New York, with additional offices in Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi. The company raised $25 million in funding, including a $20 million Series A led by Insight Partners and Alpha Wave Global, and reported serving millions of developers and companies such as Cohere and Groq. In February 2026, AI cloud infrastructure company Nebius announced an agreement to acquire Tavily for a reported $275 million, with Tavily continuing to operate under its own brand and CEO Rotem Weiss remaining to lead the product.
