AI code completion tool known for very large context windows and fast, low-latency suggestions; acquired by Cursor's parent Anysphere.

Supermaven was an AI coding assistant startup founded by Jacob Jackson, who previously created Tabnine, one of the earliest AI-based code completion tools. Supermaven launched publicly in February 2024, headquartered in San Francisco, and differentiated itself with a very large (initially 300,000-token, later reported up to 1-million-token) context window and low-latency "Tab" style code completions, aiming to be one of the fastest AI code completion copilots available. The company raised funding from Bessemer Venture Partners and other investors, including backers connected to OpenAI and Perplexity. In November 2024, Supermaven was acquired by Anysphere, the company behind the AI code editor Cursor, in an undisclosed-terms deal aimed at boosting Cursor's Tab autocomplete model. Following the acquisition, the Supermaven team was folded into Cursor/Anysphere engineering, and by late 2025 the standalone Supermaven product and plugins were being wound down as the team's focus shifted fully to Cursor. Supermaven therefore currently exists primarily as absorbed technology and talent within Cursor rather than as an independently operating company, though its browser/editor plugins remained available for a period after the acquisition.
