StackBlitz, Inc. was founded in 2017 by childhood friends Eric Simons (CEO) and Albert Pai (CTO), and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company originally built a browser-based IDE for frontend frameworks like Angular and React, later developing WebContainers, a WebAssembly-based technology that runs full Node.js environments directly in the browser. In October 2024, StackBlitz launched Bolt.new, an AI-powered app builder that lets users generate, edit, and deploy full-stack web applications from natural-language prompts by combining large language models (including Anthropic's Claude) with WebContainers. Bolt.new grew rapidly after launch, reportedly reaching roughly $20 million in annualized revenue within two months. StackBlitz has raised over $135 million in total funding, including a $7.9 million seed round in 2022, a $22 million Series A in November 2024, and a $105.5 million Series B in January 2025 led by Emergence Capital and GV (Google Ventures), with participation from Madrona Venture Group and Conviction, valuing the company at roughly $700 million.
