sonible was founded in Graz, Austria in 2013 by a group of audio engineers and researchers who wanted equalizers and compressors that could listen to a signal and propose settings, rather than starting every session from a blank plugin. The company built its own signal-analysis engine, which it calls a smart:engine, to detect masking, resonances, and spectral imbalance across a mix in real time. Its flagship line, sold individually or as the smart:bundle, includes smart:EQ 4, smart:comp 3, smart:reverb 2, smart:limit, smart:deess, and smart:gate. Each plugin visualizes what the algorithm is doing rather than hiding it behind a single "auto" button, which has made the line popular with both post-production mixers and music producers who want a faster starting point on a session. Audiotonix, the group behind Solid State Logic, DiGiCo, and Slate Digital, acquired sonible in 2023, giving the company distribution reach into large-format consoles and broadcast studios while it continues to operate as an independent brand out of Graz under co-founder Ralf Baumgartner.
