Sigma Computing builds a business intelligence platform designed around a spreadsheet interface, so people comfortable with pivot tables and formulas can explore live warehouse data without writing SQL. Jason Frantz and Rob Woollen founded the company in 2014 under the name Bitmoon Computing before rebranding to Sigma; it is headquartered in San Francisco. Every action in Sigma compiles down to a query run directly against the underlying warehouse, such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks, rather than against a cached extract, so dashboards reflect current data and there is no separate modeling server to maintain. The company has layered AI features on top of that foundation, including Sigma Agents that can take action inside a workbook and an AI toolkit for building automated workflows, alongside its established embedded-analytics and input-table capabilities for write-back use cases. Sigma has raised roughly $742 million total, including a $200 million Series D in May 2024 co-led by Spark Capital and Avenir Growth Capital, and was valued near $3 billion. Mike Palmer took over as CEO in 2024, with co-founders Woollen and Frantz moving into CTO and chief architect roles respectively.
