ServiceNow
Cloud platform running IT service management, workflow automation, and enterprise help-desk operations for large organizations, now built around agentic AI.

Founded in 2004 by Fred Luddy in San Diego, ServiceNow built its business on IT service management software that replaced legacy help-desk ticketing systems with a single workflow database. The company went public in 2012 and is now headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with Bill McDermott serving as chairman and CEO since 2019. The Now Platform has expanded well beyond IT into HR case management, customer service operations, security incident response, and finance workflows, all built on the same underlying data model. ServiceNow serves tens of thousands of enterprise customers, including a large share of the Fortune 500, and generates most of its revenue from multi-year subscription contracts rather than one-time licenses. Since 2023 the company has repackaged much of its roadmap around Now Assist, a set of generative AI capabilities layered on top of existing ITSM, HR, and CSM modules, positioning the Now Platform as a control tower for orchestrating both human and AI agents across an enterprise.
