AI summarization tool that turns research papers and reports into interactive flashcard-style summaries with citations.

Scholarcy was built by Phil Gooch, a computer scientist working on natural language processing during his PhD in health informatics, after he grew frustrated with how long it took to extract the useful parts of a paper by hand. He and co-founder Emma Warren Jones incorporated Scholarcy Limited in London in January 2019, building the product around a 'Summary Flashcard' format that pulls out a paper's key claims, methodology, and references rather than producing a single paragraph summary. The company stayed small and London-based, running with roughly half a dozen staff, and reported serving several hundred thousand students and researchers before it was acquired by Texthelp Group, an assistive-technology and literacy-software company, in November 2024. The acquisition folded Scholarcy's summarization technology into Texthelp's broader education and accessibility product line. Scholarcy's tool is used both directly by individual researchers doing literature reviews and, through institutional licensing, by universities that want to offer it campus-wide as a research-reading aid.
