SaneBox was founded in Boston in 2010 by Stuart Roseman and Dmitri Leonov, well before most competitors in this space existed, and has remained self-funded and profitable ever since, run today by a lean team of roughly a dozen people. Rather than a browser extension tied to Gmail or Outlook, SaneBox connects over IMAP and Exchange Web Services, which lets it work with almost any email provider. Its flagship mechanic, SaneLater, learns which senders a user actually engages with and reroutes the rest into a folder reviewed on the user's own schedule, backed by a daily digest email. Additional features — SaneBlackHole for one-click unsubscribing and SaneReminders for follow-up tracking — round out a product built around inbox triage rather than AI-generated writing.
