Samsara was founded in 2015 by Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket, who had previously built and sold networking company Meraki to Cisco in 2012. The company went public on the NYSE under the ticker IOT in December 2021 and is headquartered in San Francisco, with roughly 4,100 employees. Samsara's Connected Operations Cloud combines vehicle telematics, AI-equipped dash cams, and industrial IoT sensors into a single platform aimed at large fleets and physical operations more broadly, spanning trucking, construction, field services and logistics. Customers include DHL and Sysco alongside public-sector fleets in cities such as Boston, Houston and New Orleans and states including New Jersey and Tennessee. The company has leaned heavily into computer-vision safety features in recent years, training its detection models on what it says is over 180 billion minutes of driving footage and 220 billion miles of fleet data.
