Rytr was founded in 2021 by Abhi(manyu) Godara and Atul Yadav as an AI-powered writing assistant that produces content such as blog posts, ads, product descriptions and emails from short user prompts, aimed at freelancers, marketers, and small businesses. The product grew quickly, reporting millions of registered users within its first couple of years. In October 2022, Rytr was acquired by Copysmith AI, which simultaneously acquired SEO-content company Frase; the deal created a collective branded 'Copyrytr' spanning all three products. Terms were not disclosed. Despite the acquisition, Rytr has continued operating under its own brand and separate rytr.me product/site rather than being merged into Copysmith's product. As of recent reporting, Rytr has remained a very small, lean team (publicly described by its founder as around four people) while serving several million registered users, with the company's registered address listed in Wilmington, Delaware, United States.
