Replicate was founded in 2019 by Ben Firshman (former Docker product lead) and Andreas Jansson, building a cloud platform that lets developers run, fine-tune, and deploy open-source machine learning models (including image, video, and language models) through a simple API without managing infrastructure. The company raised a $40M Series B in December 2023 led by Andreessen Horowitz, following a $12.5M Series A and a $5.3M seed round, for total funding of roughly $57.8M. Cloudflare announced its acquisition of Replicate in November 2025 to build out its AI developer cloud offerings; Replicate had been headquartered in San Francisco, California, with a small team in the 11-50 employee range at the time of the acquisition.
