Recall was founded in 2022 by Paul Richards, along with co-founders Igor Gligorevic and Sankari Nair, after Richards posted about the idea on Hacker News and picked up his first investment within hours. The company operates out of Amsterdam and raised roughly $1.5 million in pre-seed funding led by Jason Calacanis, with participation from Splash Capital, Blockchain Founders Capital, and Rocket Capital. The product works as a hybrid of a read-it-later app, a note-taking tool, and a chat assistant: users save articles, YouTube videos, podcasts, PDFs, TikToks, and Google Docs in one click, and Recall automatically summarizes, tags, and links each item into a personal knowledge graph. A chat interface lets users query across everything they've saved using GPT, Claude, Gemini, or other models of their choice, and a spaced-repetition quiz feature is aimed at helping the saved material actually get retained rather than just archived. Recall markets itself around the idea of "save everything, forget nothing" — outsourcing the work of re-finding and remembering saved content to AI rather than relying on manual folders or tags, and it has built a user base that includes people from companies and universities like Bloomberg, NYU, and Stanford.
