Qure.ai was founded in Mumbai in 2016 by Prashant Warier and Dr. Pooja Rao, both coming from data science rather than clinical radiology backgrounds, on the premise that deep learning could triage medical images at the speed and volume under-resourced health systems actually need. The company trained its early models on millions of archived chest X-rays and CT scans, building toward tools that flag abnormal or urgent cases for radiologist review rather than replacing radiologists outright. Its qXR chest X-ray product and qER head CT product have gone on to receive multiple FDA clearances and CE marks, and the company describes itself as the most widely deployed medical imaging AI in the world, running in thousands of hospitals across more than 90 countries, with heavy use in tuberculosis screening programs across Africa and South Asia alongside stroke and trauma triage in higher-resource hospitals. Qure.ai closed a $65 million Series D round in September 2024 led by Lightspeed and 360 ONE Asset, with participation from Novo Holdings and the Merck Global Health Innovation Fund, bringing total funding to over $150 million as the company expands further into the US and European markets.
