Poolside AI

San Francisco foundation-model lab founded by GitHub's former CTO, building code-specialized LLMs and an enterprise developer assistant.

Poolside AI

Poolside was founded in 2023 by Jason Warner, the former CTO of GitHub, and Eiso Kant, a repeat developer-tooling entrepreneur, after the pair spent years discussing an AI-driven assistive toolchain for software engineers. The company is headquartered in San Francisco and builds its own foundation models specifically for software development rather than fine-tuning a general-purpose base model, betting that code-native pretraining produces better engineering assistants than adapting a chat-first model after the fact. Poolside raised a $500 million Series B in October 2024 led by Bain Capital, DST Global and eBay at a $3 billion valuation, and in October 2025 Nvidia committed as much as an additional $1 billion, pushing the company's reported valuation toward $12 billion. Its model lineup includes Malibu, aimed at complex software-engineering tasks, and Point, tuned for low-latency code completion, alongside the newer Laguna family introduced in 2026. The company sells primarily to enterprises that want models deployed inside their own infrastructure — cloud VPC, on-premises racks, or customer-supplied GPU clusters — rather than a hosted consumer product, and its models are also available through Amazon Bedrock.
