Polycam
3D capture company whose mobile and web apps turn LiDAR scans and ordinary photos into photogrammetry models and Gaussian splats.

Polycam was founded in 2020 by Chris Heinrich and Elliott Spelman, who met while working together at Ubiquity6, an earlier 3D-scanning and AR startup. The company built one of the first mobile apps to take advantage of LiDAR sensors on newer iPhones and iPads, letting anyone scan a room, object or space and export a usable 3D model without specialized hardware. Polycam's product has expanded from LiDAR and photogrammetry scanning into Gaussian splatting, a newer 3D representation technique it added in 2023, and now serves both individual creators exporting assets for games, VFX and 3D printing, and enterprise customers in architecture, engineering and construction who use it to document physical spaces and track jobsite progress. The company is based in San Francisco and has raised roughly $22 million in total funding, including an $18 million Series A led by Left Lane Capital and Adjacent, with individual backers including YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley and investors from Sequoia Capital and Greylock.
