Playground (formerly Playground AI) is a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2022 by Suhail Doshi, who previously co-founded the product-analytics company Mixpanel. It launched as a free web-based image generator supporting third-party models such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 2, and later developed its own proprietary diffusion model family, Playground v2, v2.5 and v3. The company has since repositioned itself as an AI-first graphics editor, combining generative AI research with product-design tooling so users can create professional-quality images, logos, social posts, posters and other visual content through prompts and templates. Playground reports over 9 million users who have collectively generated more than 1 billion images.
