Physna was founded in 2015 by Paul Powers and Dennis DeMeyere in Cincinnati, Ohio, to solve a problem manufacturers had lived with for decades: locating a 3D part or CAD model by its actual geometry rather than by whatever name or folder someone happened to file it under. The company's geometric deep-learning technology meshes and analyzes 3D models to find exact and near-duplicate parts, which manufacturers use to cut design duplication, licensing risk and inventory costs across large part libraries. Physna operates two related products: Thangs, a public 3D model search engine and community site used by makers, engineers and hobbyists, and the Physna enterprise platform and API, which large manufacturers and industrial customers license to run geometric search, deduplication and part-matching against their own private CAD libraries on AWS. The company has raised roughly $86 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global and Drive Capital, with its most recent disclosed major round a $56 million Series B in 2021. Physna reported approximately $9.8 million in revenue in 2024.
