Open-source Python framework for building AI agents and multi-agent systems; rebranded from Phidata to Agno in January 2025.
Phidata was created by Ashpreet Bedi, a former data engineer at Airbnb and Facebook (Meta), who began building the open-source library after leaving Airbnb in 2022; the project surfaced on PyPI in 2023. The company raised undisclosed pre-seed funding in April 2023 from Surface Ventures and Zero Prime Ventures, followed by a $5.4M seed round in August 2024 led by GreatPoint Ventures. In January 2025 the project and company rebranded from Phidata to Agno, moving its open-source repository to the agno-agi GitHub organization. Agno provides a model-agnostic framework, working with more than 30 model providers behind a single interface, with built-in support for agent memory, knowledge retrieval, tool use, reasoning, and multimodal input across text, image, audio, and video. The company is headquartered in New York City and remains a small team of roughly 9-10 employees as of 2026.
